Schools Christmas Art Competition 2019

Our Hertfordshire Heroes are members of the armed forces community who work hard to protect our nation and are often working away from their families at Christmas.

They have told us how much they would appreciate receiving pictures from Hertfordshire children during this festive period.

Who is your Hertfordshire Hero?

Help send our military heroes some "Christmas cheer" by drawing your own Hertfordshire Hero for them.

A pupil will win a day of adventure at a Hertfordshire Military base. Have a look at photos from last year's day of adventure!

How to enter

Teachers, in order to enter the competition:

1. Pupils must be attending Hertfordshire schools and be in Key Stage 2

2. Ask your students to draw their "Hertfordshire Hero" (no larger than A3 using any materials)

3. Ensure they include in their picture the phrase, ‘Wishing our military heroes a Merry Christmas from (name of school)’.

4. Write (or ensure the student has legibly written) the name and age of the pupil, class and school on the back of the picture.

Entries are accepted from 1 November - 9 December and should be sent to:

Hertfordshire Heroes Christmas Art Competition, Postal Point CHO144, Hertfordshire County Council, Corporate Policy Team Room 125, County Hall, Hertford, SG13 8DN

What happens next?

The 2019 competition will be judged by Northwood HQ - the UK’s principal military headquarters – who will distribute the art to armed forces personnel working away from home at Christmas.

Northwood is a very important military base that makes decisions about joint and combined military operations involving the Navy, RAF and the Army worldwide.

Hertfordshire County Council will arrange with you for an award giving assembly to be held at your school (at your discretion) with representatives from the Armed Forces, the Chairman of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board and your local ward Councillors from Hertfordshire County Council on a date and at venue agreed with you. Northwood HQ will arrange the day of adventure at a later date.

Photos of the winning entries will be featured on www.hertfordshireheroes.org. We will seek permission to use photos of the winning artist on the web and in press releases.

Unfortunately, pictures cannot be returned.

Please note that the judging and distribution of the artwork is dependent on the availability of staff at Northwood HQ and that the competition may be subject to change due to the nature of military operations.

For any queries, please contact Hertfordshire.Heroes@hertfordshire.gov.uk
