Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant e-learning

There are two free eLearning modules available to help you understand more about the Armed Forces Covenant and what it is in place to do.

Armed Forces Covenant – an introduction

This introductory module is designed to help explain what the Armed Forces Covenant is in place to do, how it works in Hertfordshire, and how the different aspects of Service life might affect people when they leave the Armed Forces.

This 15-20 minute learning gives an overview of:

  • Who the Armed Forces Community are and what challenges they face.
  • What the Armed Forces do on our behalf.
  • What the Armed Forces Covenant is, how it works in Hertfordshire and how it can support personnel, veterans and their families.

It also highlights issues around health, housing and education, which reflects the Armed Forces Covenant Duty.  This places a legal obligation on public bodies to pay ‘due regard to the principles of the Covenant’ and requires decisions about the development and delivery of certain services are made with conscious consideration of the needs of the Armed Forces Community.

This training has been developed by Warwickshire County Council on behalf of  Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership with funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. Additional information about the Covenant in Hertfordshire has been written and included by Hertfordshire County Council.

Armed Forces Covenant and Covenant Duty for Customer-facing staff

This more in-depth module is designed for anyone working within the public sector and other organisation across the UK that support the Armed Forces community.  It covers what the Armed Forces Covenant is, video testimonials of life during and after the Armed Forces from those who served and their family members, case studies on how to apply the Covenant Duty within Education, Housing and Healthcare and how the Armed Forces community can be supported.

This e-learning is designed to:

  • give an insight into Service life and culture
  • highlight the ‘unique obligations and sacrifices’ made by the Armed Forces community
  • give direct insight into the lived experiences of members of the Armed Forces community
  • explain the Armed Forces Covenant and the Armed Forces Covenant Duty
  • explain what staff could do to support this community
  • provide staff with sources of information and support to use in their role or to pass on to members of the Armed Forces community.

The training has been developed by Warwickshire County Council on behalf of  Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership with funding from the Trust under the Sustaining Delivery of the Covenant Programme
