Pupils from across Hertfordshire showcased their creativity and festive spirit in this year’s Hertfordshire Heroes Christmas Art Competition, and we were proud to celebrate their achievements at a special winners’ assembly on 26 January 2026.
Now in its 13th year, our competition continues to invite children to create artwork inspired by kindness, community, and the vital role our Armed Forces personnel and their families play during the festive season.
This year’s entries were thoughtful, imaginative, and demonstrated impressive artistic skill. Our judging panel were particularly moved by the care pupils took in reflecting messages of support and appreciation, especially for Armed Forces personnel spending Christmas away from their families.
Special Guests Attend the Assembly
We were delighted to welcome Cllr Ajanta Hilton, Chair of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board, and Group Captain Neil Towers from Northwood Headquarters, who joined us to congratulate the pupils and present the prizes – with all three winners coming from Chambersbury Primary School, Hemel Hempstead.
Both guests spoke to the children about the importance of recognising and supporting the Armed Forces community, particularly at Christmas. They highlighted how creative projects like our competition help build understanding and connection across Hertfordshire. They also answered pupils’ questions, offering valuable insight into the work of Armed Forces personnel and the support available to service families.
Competition Winners
We were pleased to award certificates and prizes to our three talented winners, each of whom received tickets for themselves and a guest to enjoy an experience a GO APE adventure day. See their beautiful art below.

Their artwork will be proudly showcased on the Hertfordshire Heroes webpages so that families, schools, and the wider community can enjoy their festive designs.
We will also be sharing their artwork with members of the Armed Forces who are serving away from home over Christmas, helping to send a heartfelt message of support from Hertfordshire pupils.
Celebrating Creativity and Community
A huge thank you goes to every pupil who took part — and to teachers, school staff, and parents for their ongoing support. Initiatives like this strengthen the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant, deepen community understanding, and celebrate the positive contributions of Forces families across our county.
We look forward to seeing even more inspiring entries next year!
